Ahead of the 2020 general elections in Ghana, stakeholders have been charged to preach and work towards maintaining peace and order in the country since the beginning of the 4th Republic.
This appeal was made by the Country Director for International Association of World Peace Advocate (IAWPA) Bishop Sam Owusu, during a recent discussion on Onua TV dubbed ‘Onua Abator’.
According to Sam Owusu, Ghanaians are very descending and will only vote for a candidate and party who is willing and working towards maintaining peace in the country before, during and after the December elections.
The Country Director who doubles as the United Nations Eminent Peace Ambassador reminded politicians of what happened in the 2008 election year which saw the late former President John Evans Atta Mills emerging the winner after making peace his slogan.
He recounted that “John Evans Atta Mills put his political ambition on the rock of peace. I can recall him saying I am for peace which earned him the accolade ‘asomdwehene’. Ask yourself what was the then posture of the flagbearer of the NPP Nana Akufo-Addo, he was then feeling proud all over the place thinking he had already won the elections.
“This scenario continued in 2012 general elections after the death of the former President, this is where we head abusive words like ‘all die be die, yen Akyemfo dea yeye akukudrufo, and many others from a flagbearer of the NPP who want to be a president, and what happened, he lost the elections. And in 2016, the NDC and John Mahama adopted the style of Nana Akufo-Addo in previous elections while Akufo-Addo also adopted another approach ahead of election 2016. We heard him preaching peace with words like ‘the battle is the Lord’s’ among others and truly he won, the NDC were just throwing insults on the flagbearer of the NPP, they felt their so-called infrastructure development could save them from loosing but Ghanaians showed them the red card. This should tell politicians that we are decerning and peace is paramount in our everyday life,” he stated.
According to him, “this has been the trend of Ghanaian politics and what they vote for, we are very decerning as a country and always do our possible best to protect the peace we have enjoyed since time immemorial”.
The founder and General Overseer of Pottersville International Ministry counseled political parties to vigorously educate the electorates on their developmental policies as well as being ambassadors of peace which he claims is the antidote to win the political will of the people.
He advised the teaming youth not to be influenced by any political party to distrupt the peace the country is enjoying,
“let’s not sell our dignity to these self-centered politicians for goodies, one thousand Ghana Cedis can never solve your lifetime problems for the four years that political leaders will enjoy in government. Let us try to make our lives meaningful in society,” he stated.
