“Two years ago, the United Nations Association of Ghana gave me the permission to lead the Women and Children’s wing of the Association here in Ghana. The establishment of the Commission was propelled into action last year with the registration and other documentations fully completed early this year. Having satisfied all legal and regulatory requirements, I am happy to say that the UNACWCA is now a legal body recognized by the laws of Ghana with support from the United Nations Association of Ghana. And we are also recognized by the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA),” she stated.

“The Commission will continue to condemn abuses of women and children rights in Ghana. The lynching of Akua Denteh, an old lady in the East Gonjah District on suspicions of her being a witch remain fresh in the minds of Ghanaians. I vow the Commission determination to front for the rights of women and children who fall victims to such predicaments and for the perpetrators to face the laws,” she stated.

The Vice President of Liberia, Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, who joined the programme via zoom as keynote speaker charged African women to stand up for their rights in all global platforms.

The UNACWCA has a Mission to;

  1. End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere.
  2. Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation.
  3. Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation.
  4. Recognize and value unpaid care and domestic work through the provision of public services, infrastructure and social protection policies and the promotion of shared responsibility within the household and the family as nationally appropriate.
