The Ministry of Works and Housing has denied allegations that the Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye, conspired with a former Chief Justice to sell the official residence of the late Justice Samuel Marful-Sau.

Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong, made these claims, prompting the Ministry to issue a statement on Sunday, January 14, 2024 stating that there has been no sale of the property.

The Ministry clarified that the current developments taking place at the official residence of the late Justice Marful-Sau are part of the Government Redevelopment Programme (GRP).

The GRP has been implemented by successive governments since 1992 in various neighborhoods around Greater Accra.

This program aims to provide residential accommodation in Accra for the increasing number of public and civil servants.

According to the Ministry, the GRP is founded on the principle of optimizing government’s prime lands located in old, run-down neighborhoods. It aims to redevelop these neighborhoods and provide better housing options for public sector workers.

The Ministry emphasized that the GRP has successfully contributed to the growth and development of these prime neighborhoods which now house a greater number of public sector workers than before.

In line with the GRP, the Ministry is currently redeveloping four structures in Roman Ridge, which were formerly official residences for a late Supreme Court Justice, an Appeals Court Judge, a Minister of State, and a retired Chief Director. These structures sit on approximately three acres of land.

The Ministry of Works and Housing assures the public that the official residence of the late Justice Marful-Sau has not been sold and remains the property of the state.

The Government Redevelopment Programme is a cost-effective undertaking that aims to optimize the use of government lands and provide efficient housing solutions for public sector workers.
