‘K.T. Hammond is showing ingratitude to Adansi-Asokwa NPP delegates’ – Binfoh Darkwa responds to petition
“When the time is ready for him to go, he's just doing everything possible to prevent the contest…the excuses and allegations they are bringing against me do not hold water. At the regional level, I provided evidences in my responses to all the allegations.”
The New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate Aspirant for Adansi-Asokwa, Sammy Binfoh Darkwa has responded to a petition by the Trade and Industry Minister, K.T. Hammond which sought to disqualify him from contesting in the upcoming primaries.
The current MP for the area, K.T. Hammond appealed to the National Vetting Committee of the party to disqualify all opponents in the upcoming primaries.
This was after his initial petition to the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee did not yield any result. The Minister in his petition argued that all three candidates per Article 12 (4) and (7) of the party’s constitution do not qualify to contest the primaries.
Reacting to the Minister’s claim, Mr. Binfoh Darkwa stated that K.T. Hammond is showing an act of “ingratitude” to the constituents.
He explained that the Minister after representing the constituents unopposed for 20 years should be sincere enough to show gratitude to the delegates.
“I think that the action he is showing is a sign of ingratitude to the delegates in Adansi-Asokwa. Somebody who has been given opportunity to serve the people of Adansi-Asokwa for 24 good years, 20 of them were never contested.
“So at this stage, if he is really minded and has a heart of gratitude, he should just go to the people of Adansi-Asokwa today and say a big ‘Thank You’ to them that you have honoured me”, he said on Ghana Tonight, Monday, January 15.
Mr. Darkwa alleged that the MP is deploying unwarranted tactics to retain his position.
He said the primaries will happen as planned as he has provided evidences to clear all allegations against him.
“When the time is ready for him to go, he’s just doing everything possible to prevent the contest…the excuses and allegations they are bringing against me do not hold water. At the regional level, I provided evidences in my responses to all the allegations.”
Mr. Darkwa met the Appeals Committee on Monday, January 15 to respond to the allegations against him.
“Today [Monday] after responding to the petition he sent to the Appeals Committee, there was nothing like do not go and campaign…he is afraid of the contest that is why he is playing all those games,” Mr Darkwa stated.
