Kofi Adams set to Review Black Stars’ Technical Team Appointments

Ghana’s Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced plans to review the recent appointments to the Black Stars’ technical team made by the Ghana Football Association (GFA). This move comes as Adams prepares to take the reins as the new Sports Minister, succeeding Mustapha Hamid.

In an interview with Sporty FM, Adams stated, “We will review the GFA’s new appointments to the Black Stars’ technical team.” He emphasized that this review will be his first engagement with the GFA, highlighting his commitment to ensuring the best possible outcomes for Ghanaian football.

One of the key appointments under scrutiny is that of German coach Winfried Schaefer, who was recently named as the technical advisor and football director of the Black Stars. Adams questioned whether Schaefer’s contract allows for a review or negotiation of his salary, asking, “Can we find a more cost-effective option than Winfried Schaffer? Can we negotiate a lower salary?”

This development comes as Adams awaits his official swearing-in as the new Sports Minister. His vetting process was completed yesterday, paving the way for him to take office.

As Adams prepares to embark on his new role, he is also facing calls from stakeholders to focus on developing “lesser-known sports” in Ghana. Weightlifter Winnifred Ntumi, who won Ghana’s first medals at the 2023 African Games, urged Adams to pay attention to sports beyond football, emphasizing the need for equipment and support to compete in international competitions.
