The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has denied claims that 20 of their renal patients have lost their lives this year as a result of shortages of consumables resulting from a $6 million debt to suppliers.

The Management of the hospital in a press statement noted that the allegations are unfounded and acknowledged that the misconception originated from a misinterpreted media flyer. It thus urged the public to disregard the false claims.

Re-opening

The Outpatient Renal Dialysis Centre of the facility was opened on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, following days of shutdown as a result of a shortage of consumables.

It took delivery of some quantity of the consumables, which were airlifted into the country earlier this month but had gotten stuck at the port.

The remaining shipments at the port are in the process of being cleared with the support of the Ministries of Health and Finance, the statement said.
