Krowor: 2 NDC Members defect to NPP

An influential figure in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Krowor constituency of the Greater Accra Region, Joseph Okley Odai has defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) citing the Free Senior High (FSHS) program, One District, One Factory project and the feeling of neglect from the NDC when he was struck by a debilitating stroke for his action as the reason.

He also mentioned the pro-poor relief programs such as the free electricity and free water interventions to Ghanaians being implemented by President Akufo-Addo are among the other reasons for which he decided to cross carpet to the NPP.

Okley, popularly known as Papa Abrotsi in the constituency says he joined and served the NDC from 1992 till now, holding various positions in the party including the propaganda secretary in the constituency but did not get any help from the party.

When stroke, unfortunately, visited Mr Okley and rendering him incapacitated, he disclosed that it was Elizabeth Naa Afoley, the current MP for Krowor constituency on the ticket of the NPP who footed his medical bills till he got completely healed.

Mr. Okley, who claimed to be the founder of Regular Callers Association, a group that had its members calling into various radio stations including the defunct radio Gold and Meridian FM to propagate NDC’s policies, said, he has “seen the light” hence his decision to move camp to the NPP.

He revealed that his family members have also decided to follow him to the ruling party after the MP convinced them that, the  NPP is the right party to promote their interest.

GhanaNewsOnline.com.gh has also gathered that Nii Tackie of the Cocobeach branch of the NDC, has also announced his defection to the NPP at a well-attended ceremony at the Methodist Church in the constituency.

The ex-NDC members said their defection was not motivated by monetary reward. They called on the NPP to resource them to enable them to use their knowledge to mastermind another four-year term for President Akufo-Addo and Elizabeth Naa Afoley.
