The Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has indicated that the government is committed to providing decent accommodation for security personnel in the country to ensure their safety and to boost productivity.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony of staff houses to the Ghana Immigration Service at the John Agyekum Kufuor Estate in Kumasi, Ashanti region, the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP indicated that the Ministry of Housing is consulting with stakeholders to complete an incentive package which will be used to stimulate the quick development of housing to reduce the 1.8 million housing deficit in Ghana within the next 10 years.

He also mentioned that the ministry will soon roll out a district housing programme across the 261 Districts in Ghana which will make use of local building materials so that the final products are very affordable to deliver more housing, particularly to public servants who are posted to rural areas to serve Ghana.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah said in addition to the housing programme for security personnel, the government has a broader housing policy to develop accommodation for public servants.
