Traders in Kumasi have threatened to replicate the incident in South Africa which is popularly known as xenophobia should the government fail to enforce the law preventing foreigners from engaging in the retail business.
The traders complained to Rainbow Radio’s Abdul Malik Anokye that the foreigners i.e Nigerians and Chinese are taking over their business.
According to the traders, government has failed to enforce Section 27 (1) of the GIPC Act, which bars foreigners from doing retail business.
Abdul Malik Anokye said the traders maintained the influx of foreigners in the retail business was threatening their livelihood and depriving them of their rights as Ghanaians.

They cite Ghanaian laws to justify their action, insisting that they have been left with no choice than to move into the markets and lock the shops up themselves because the law enforcement agencies fail to do their work.
