Kwabre East: ‘Voting capital’ of ruling party’s stronghold begs for development

“The Kwabre East Constituency which is cherished as the voting capital of the ruling party’s world bank is the most deprived constituency in the Ashanti Region. The Municipal capital Mampongteng has no single tarred road, no public senior high school, TVET, not a single purpose state hospital and an abandoned market. Our state of development remains a major scar, a worrying narrative and an affront to our collective dignity to exercise our right to some basic development facilities fundamental to the comfort, security and survival of our people.

The Chiefs and people of the Kwabre East Constituency in the Ashanti Region have launched a desperate appeal to the governing New Patriotic Party, NPP, to urgently deal with the developmental challenges in the area.

According to them, Tuesday’s press conference organized by the traditional rulers has become necessary to register their displeasure because the lack of development in the area makes life unbearable.

The Chief of Mampongteng, Barima Saasi Ayeboafo II, have made it clear that their next line of voting will be dependent on the infrastructural development in the community. Although the Kwabre East Constituency is said to be the voting powerhouse of the ruling New Patriotic Party, the Chief said enough has not been done to improve the lives of the constituents.

We demand immediate action by the president and relevant government authorities to change this narrative which is fast threatening the survival of the Kwabre East Municipality in the face of a basic infrastructural deficit. If the tone of this petition is strongly-worded, it only measures the degrees of frustration among our people to what appears to be deliberate discrimination by the government to deprive the Municipality of its due in respect of development,” the visibly worried chief said.

In a related development, the youth of Kwabre East Constituency say the indifference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its government towards them has caused apathy among their rank and file.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the aggrieved youth expressed their utmost disappointment in the party and the Akufo-Addo government.

According to them, although they are staunch NPP supporters, they do not care about the party anymore.

“We no longer have the NPP in our DNA. It is gone. You’ve disappointed us especially, the constituents of Kwabre East,” the youth fumed.

In their view, since assuming the reign of government in 2017, the party has not undertaken any developmental project in Kwabre East to improve the lives of its constituents.

According to them, the deplorable state of the Antoa road is still the same despite President Akufo-Addo’s assumption of office five years ago.

Touching on challenges the Ashanti Region faces, the youth said the NPP government does not only exploit the love Asanteman has for the party but disrespects the residents as well.

They were of the view that the party consistently deceives them about ‘invisible’ projects.
