As President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has always stated, “there should be deeper transparency in the governance system in order for those in authority to effectively account to the people,” the Kwahu East District Assembly has held its maiden meet the press session to account for the stewardship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s three years in office.
The District Chief Executive for the area, Isaac Agyapong, said it is in line with the NPP’s campaign promise of not keeping the Ghanaian people in the dark as far as governance is concerned. He said the objective of the program is to interact and present the performance of the District Assembly over the years he has occupied the office as the DCE of the area.
According to the DCE, the Assembly has equally benefited from the national cake as disbursed by the central government. He revealed that the Assembly has as part of the “one million one constituency” policy which is geared towards the IPEP, it has constructed numerous health centers, classroom blocks, toilet facilities, boreholes, markets, among others which are all widely spread across the District Assembly.
Agyapong highlighted other policies like the One District One Factory (1D1F) where the Assembly is considering a tigernut factory; Planting for Export and Rural Development which has enabled the assembly to distribute some 32, 000 seedlings to farmers accross the District. The Assembly has also received 100 trainees under the Nation Builders Corps, Planting for food and jobs which he revealed has created more employment for the youth of the area and Ghanaians at large.
He observe that the impact the Free Senior High School policy has played in the development of education in the district been very impressive.
He charged the first batch of the free Senior high School beneficiaries to do the Akufo-Addo led government a great honor by passing their pending West Africa secondary School certificate examination with dinstinction to shame critics of the great policy Ghana has ever had.
The DCE revealed that the government through the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat has for the three years in office awarded some 658 tertiary students in various tertiary institutions from the Kwahu East District to the tune of Ghc 365,244.80 which he said is to enable the students to concentrate on their education.
He expressed the assemblys gratitude to the development partners including the Bryan Acheampong Foundation, JOICFP, Save Water Network, Adopt One Village and JICA.
“I will like to say thank you to our developing partners who have our the years supported the assembly to meet the needs of our people. Even though there are much to be done I believe they will continue to support us as we continue to fight for the development of the Kwahu East District Assembly” he stated.
He pleaded with the meeting that the referendum which is scheduled for December 17 is not partisan but a process to deepen the democracy of the Republic where the citizenry will have the mandate to decide where the district level elections should be politicised advocating for a 100% yes vote.
