A form one school dropout who is said to be suffering from postpartum depression after child birth has been adopted by the Deputy Chief Executive officer of the Middle Belt Development authority Madam Joyce Opoku Boateng.
Information gathered by Ghananewsonline.com.gh indicates that, the teenager, Theresa Boateng, who is living with her mother in Boadu, a suburb of Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality in the Eastern Region dropped out from school at form one when she noticed she was pregnant.
Mother of Theresa, Kate Boateng, said she to consoled her daughter with the hope of a bright future after she gave birth, but they got to notice that her daughter startes behave abnormally. She would sometimes slap her own mother over nothing and this started few days after she gave birth to a baby girl.
‘’In the beginning, she will either bite or slap you whenever someone tries to engage her so we sent her to the hospital for treatment. Later, I thought it was a spiritual problem because we could not find solution to the situation, so we had to move from prayer camps to prayer camps to seek deliverance. She gets better for a little while but few days later the issue begins again. At times she will be normal, interact with me for sometimes, will wake up in the morning, sweep and involve herself in most of the household chores but the situation got worsening since last five days and I don’t know what to do,” she narrated.
She continued to revealed that, currently a Human Rights Lawyer who is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Middle Belt Development Authority, Madam Joyce Opoku Boateng has accepted to take responsibility of the newly born baby.
Lawyer Joyce Opoku Opoku Boateng, told this reporter that ‘’I didn’t believe it initially so I decided to go to the community to verify. As mother and woman I just couldn’t turn my back at them and since then I have adopted the family. What I did initially was to get something for the baby hoping that if we buy few things to improve their environment the young lady will come back to her senses.”
