Kyebi Chief Reveals His Support Of Atewa Bauite Mine

Bauxite mining in the Atewa forest has raised a lot of concerns and controversies from many angles in Ghana but the chief of Kyebi, Osabarima Marfo Kwabrane has waded into the controversy to support the president’s decision to mine in the Atewa forest.

The respected chief who is also known as Abontendomhene said the traditional leaders of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area are for development and will not do anything at the detriment of the area’s development.

In an exclusive phone interview with Nana Addo on the susubiribi morning show on Radio 1 100.7fm on thursday January 23 2020, the traditional leader revealed that after carefully looking into the proposed method to mine in the Atewa forest, it would be responsible.

“It’s a straight forward thing. We support the government. Bauxite mining should come off. We’ll sit down with government and make sure the mining becomes responsible. We won’t sit aloof for them to just mine anyhow. This will bring development to the the area and Ghana at large and also increase employment in the society”, – Osabarima Marfo Kwabrane added

That not alone, he added that the recent group that demonstrated against the government’s decision to mine in the Atewa forest never consulted the traditional leaders before embarking on the said demonstration. “I don’t know them. They didn’t come to anyone. Ask them if they came to me. I don’t know anything about them”
