La Dadekotopon: Internal fight in NPP deepens ahead of Election 2024 following the swapping of PC…
At the time of filing this report, a driver at the presidency, in the person of Joseph Addo, was being prepared by some of the Polling Station Executives to challenge the current MCE/PC for La.
Information available to this ghananewsonline.com.gh indicates that, all is not well with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the La Dadekotopon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region as powerful hands at the national secretariat have succeeded in manipulating the system to cause the duly elected Parliamentary Candidate to step down for another person.
In September 2023 when the nominations were opened for the election of a parliamentary candidate, one Dr Joseph Gerald Tetteh Nyanyofio was the only aspirant to have expressed interest. He subsequently filed and was acclaimed the candidate for the 2024 parliamentary elections. However, we have picked signals that the current Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), the same man who brought Dr. Nyanyofio to defeat the former MP for the area – Vincent Odotei in the 2020 NPP parliamentary primaries, had also wanted to contest against Dr Nyanyofio in 2024.
Dr Joseph Gerald Tetteh Nyanyofio, who all these while carried himself publicly as the 2024 PC for La on the ticket of the NPP and instigating several media publications in that regard was advised to step down for the former MP, Vincent Odotei, because he, Odotei had threatened to contest as an Independent Candidate come December, 2024, “A move that will affect the Party’s chances in 2024,” our source noted.
Insiders say, Dr. Gerald Tetteh Nyanyofio, who lectures at the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Management Studies, UPSA, accepted to step down for peace to prevail, unfortunately for Vincent Odotei, the constituency leadership; Council of Elders, Executives, Coordinators and most of the party’s polling station executives in the constituency unanimously rejected that proposal due to their level of confidence in Dr Gerald Nyanyofio’s candidature.
Meanwhile, the current MCE for La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly, Solomon Kotey Nikoi, has renewed his aspirations to become the candidate, accordingly, the National Executive Committee, through some influential individuals, have declared him the unopposed candidate. This has caused tye anger of the polling station executives who have hone up in arms against the move.
Some of them believe he, the MCE who also doubles as the PC for the area has acted in bad faith, since he did not give Dr Nyanyofio the adequate level of support, hence, they (NPP polling station executives) have gone for someone close to the corridors of power to come and contest him.
At the time of filing this report, a driver at the presidency, in the person of Joseph Addo, was being prepared by some of the Polling Station Executives to challenge the current MCE/PC for La.
Under the condition of anonymity some Polling Station Executives told this reporter that, the concern of many is that the imposition of the MCE on them does not only undermine the cardinal philosophy of the party, but also marks the death of democracy in La Dadekotopon Constituency.
As at this morning, the NPP in the La Dadekotopon constituency is more divided and some of the constituency executives are entertaining fears ahead of the December 7, Presidential and Parliamentary election.
More to come
