Landlord raises alarm over alleged military-led demolitions at East Legon- Trassaco
He condemned the involvement of the military in such exercises, particularly when it results in the destruction of private property, describing it as a practice that should not be tolerated in Ghana.
Nana Ofori Boasiako, a landlord at the East Legon -Trassaco area of the Greater Accra Region, has voiced his concerns about the alleged actions of military personnel involved in the demolition of properties in the area.
He condemned the involvement of the military in such exercises, particularly when it results in the destruction of private property, describing it as a practice that should not be tolerated in Ghana.
In the early hours of Wednesday, August 14, 2024, heavily armed military men from the Ghana Armed Forces oversaw the demolition of an eight-bedroom house and 40 stores owned by Nana Egyiri Aggrey, the Mawrehene of Akuapem.
The properties, located in Trassaco, East Legon, were demolished despite an ongoing legal dispute over the land.
The land in question was purchased by Nana Egyiri Aggrey in 2000, with construction on the site beginning in 2007.
Speaking to the media in an interview, Nana Ofori Boasiako, who shares a wall with the demolished property, confirmed that Nana Aggrey had acquired his land before Boasiako purchased his own from the same seller.
He asserted that Nana Aggrey is the legitimate owner of the disputed land and called on the government and authorities at the Jubilee House to intervene urgently.
Mr Jesse Aggrey, the son of Nana Egyiri Aggrey, also appealed to higher authorities, including the President, for assistance.
He stressed that his family holds the rightful title to the land, with the land registry documenting his father’s ownership.
Mr Jesse vowed to pursue justice, stating that he would fight the matter to the end.
The land dispute is currently before the Supreme Court, but despite this, a man named Mr. Dorson, who claims to have won a judgment last year against the now-deceased woman who sold the land to Nana Aggrey, proceeded with the demolition with military backing.
