Lawyers form rival Association to ‘break’ the monopoly of the GBA

Before the formation of the Law Society of Ghana, the Ghana Bar Association was the only professional body of lawyers in the country

A new association – the Law Society of Ghana (LSG) has been established to ‘break’ the monopoly of the Ghana Bar Association.

Per documents circulating in the public domain, the new association has been duly registered with the Registrar General’s Department as a company limited by guarantee (LBG) although the rationale behind it’s formation is yet to be officially communicated by it’s promoters or sponsors.

Before the formation of the Law Society of Ghana, the Ghana Bar Association was the only professional body of lawyers in the country which admission was automatic for lawyers called to the Bar.
