Leader of Armed Robbery gang in Kpando arrested
The police has arrested a man believed to be part of an armed robbery gang in Kpando in the Volta region.
The suspect, Amadu Ibrahim, 37, was part of a gang of five, who robbed motorists on the Nkonya Asakyiri to Kpando Agbenorxoe highway on Friday.
They made away with ¢21,250, mobile phones and a laptop computer, police said in a statement Saturday.
The suspect was, however, arrested by the Kpando Divisional Police Command following intelligence and investigations.
The gang robbed motorists travelling on a Hyundai minibus on the highway linking Nkonya Asakyiri and Kpando Agbenorxoe.
The police first got the distress call on Friday at about 1:50 pm and moved to the scene of the crime.
“An official complaint was later lodged by the victims and investigation commenced into the incident whilst patrol within the area was intensified in pursuit of the robbers,” the police said.
“About 12:00 hours same day, the suspect was arrested at the Have Police Barrier while attempting to escape from the jurisdiction with some of the booty including one iPhone 7 and one Infinix phone and cash amount of ¢7,386.10,” the police added.
Further investigation revealed that the mobile phones retrieved from the suspect are properties of two of the victims who were robbed in the minibus.
The suspect is currently assisting Police investigation and will be duly arraigned “while the accomplices are [being] pursued.”
The Volta Regional Police Command appears to have stepped up security following the killing of an Assemblyman at Sogakope, Mr Marcus Adzahli. Five persons are currently facing a court in connection with the case.
