Let Society Benefit from Your Education – Aduboahen to Students 

Dr. Adubboahen made this charge on the students of Nkenkansu Senior High (NKESS) last Saturday, June 25, 2022 during the maiden edition of the “Home Coming” programme for the Old students Association for the school (NKOSA) at the school’s premises.

Dr. Rockson Aduboahen, a businessman, has charged students to endeavour to make their various societies benefit from their education.

As such, they should engage in activities that will impact positively on their societies, and refrain from those that bring about negativities. “Students should make serious commitment to their education to impact positively on people and society. Don’t just go to school because others are also going to school. Rather, challenge yourself to acquire the best of education to benefit your society!” he charged.

While stressing that education is a sene quanom and therefore cannot be toiled with. He urged students to endeavour to achieve it, as it has no limit or boundary. He maintained that education is not only a ray to development but also a source of transformation for the person who acquires it, the people and society in which he lives. Therefore, one should not be hampered by his background, but thrive hard to acquire it; because it is with education that even people from low background have risen high.

I AM A SON OF THE SOIL

Describing himself as a son of the soil of Nkenkansu, Dr. Aduboahen stated that he has a high sense of commitment for the transformation of the Nkenkansu community. He subsequently commended the old students for the formation of the Association, NKOSA to help transform their alma matter.

According to President of the Association, Mr. Osmanu Ibrahim Sarfo, as past students they have a big stake in the school, hence the formation of the Association to bring about development in the school.

Mentioning the theme for the programme as “The role of the old student in the development of NKESS,” the president urged all members to join the train in bringing development to the school. He noted that having come face to face with the miriad of problems facing the school, they formed the Association in April 2020, and he was unanimously made President. He indicated that among the aims and aspirations of the Association was to foster unity and cooperation between members of the association, students, teachers, parents and all stakeholders to bring development to the school. Mr. Sarfo pointed out that through this collaboration, they had chalked a lot for the school, and in their guest for more they intend putting up a “Sick Bay” for the school to cater for the health needs of the students. “All hands should therefore be on the dock” he pleaded.

CHAIRMAN’S SUPPORT

While commending the association for their aims and aspirations, Dr. Aduboahen gave GH¢10, 000 to the project. He also promised them two Polythene tanks for their water project and 50 bags of cement towards a proposed dormitory under construction. He also promised the school a new school bus, following the headmaster’s claim that their only bus is in deplorable state. He pledged to continue to support the school from where the pioneers including the MP had reached.

IT’S NOT BEEN EASY – HEADMASTER

On his part, the Headmaster of the school, Osagyefo Kweku Gyan Asante stated that, the journey of the school has not been easy since its formation in the 2010’s. However through personal and collaborations of teachers, parents, students and stakeholders, the school has chalked some successes in many ways. Yet a lot of challenges faced the school.

CHALLENGES

The Headmaster enumerated some of the challenges facing the school as inadequate classrooms, lack of administration block, Assembly Hall, dormitories, lack of Science lab, school library and many more. He also stated that the schools old bus was in a deplorable state and urgently needed a brand new one. He was however quick to commend NKOSA, the District Assembly, Government and the member of Parliament for their assistance so far. However, like Olivertwist, the school needed some more.

GOV’T IS COMMITTED TO EDUCATION –DCE

On his Part, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the district, David Akwasi Asare indicated that government was very committed to education in the Country, hence the introduction of the Free Senior High School Policy by the Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo ( New Patriotic Administration. He stated that this is to make every school going child in the country benefit from education.

He pointed out that in this regard, government, through the District Assembly had done much for the school. These included, extension of electricity and water to the school the building of the Assembly Hall, connection of a 100 seater U drain to the school dormitories for boys and girls accommodation for the Headmaster and his assistant, a story building and many more. He maintained that though global changes such as Covid-19 and the Ukrain Russian conflict had had negative impact of the Ghanaian economy, government is still determined to push education through.

The DCE commended that staff, students, parents, stakeholders and especially the old students Association for their contributions in various forms to the school. He charged the continuing students to emulate their past students to bring development to their Alma matter on completion of school.

Mr. William Kwabena Nantwi, NPP 2nd Vice-Chairman for Offinso North who represented the MP, Collins Ntim, also pledged the MP’s continued support for the school. According to him, the MP, since the inception of the school, had made a number of contributions to the school. Describing the school as the MP’s baby, Mr. Nantwi stated that the MP will not relinquish in his support for the school. He promised that the MP will replace the old deplorable school bus with a new one.
