Ghanaians have been advised to be law abiding citizens and not spectators as the country strives for solutions to thile coronavirus pandemic which has taken the whole world by surprise. The pandemic also known as Covid-19 has so far clamimed thousands of life’s while leaving others bedridden.
This was contained in a statement released and signed by the former deputy Organiser of the USA branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ali Suraj and copied Ghananewsonline.com.gh.
Ali Suraj urged the citizens to stop causing fear and panic in society because his attention has been drawn to some malicious videos circulating in the public space which sought to create the impression of inhumane and abusive treatments being meted out to some people who were said to have defied the Presidential order of a lockdown to stay at home.
According to him, “such videos do not only seek to create fear and panic in our country but also invite disaffection, destroy and soil the image and hard won reputation of our security forces especially the army.
“I wish to submit that such happenings in those videos did not occur within the borders of Ghana but rather it happened outside the country, in most cases undemocratic countries.
“At this time of global menace which has affected all spheres of our life, it is only imperative and expedient to channel our collective energies into arriving at a solution that will contribute to expelling the virus or ameliorate our situation in the country vis-a-vis the pandemic, hence need the cooperate with authorities to help fight the virus .
“Let me state categorically that our security agencies are well trained, professional, on top of their jobs and engage citizens diplomatically. Under no circumstance do they have the power to maltreat and manhandle citizens especially not at the time when the world is psychologically depressed, the President has given a stern directive to the National security, interior and defense ministries to carry their duties professionally particularly in this two weeks period of a lockdown,” he stated.
He admonished the security agencies in the country to carry their duties professionally without fear or favor.
“And to the citizens, let us respect the law and protect the country from the evil hands of COVID-19” stressing further that, “while we reserve the right to share videos of military terror, let us do the needful by informing our viewers where such videos emanate”.
