Mahama cautions NDC against complacency despite favorable Fitch and Global InfoAnalytics polls
He said these surveys suggest that the NDC has a high chance of securing victory in 2024.
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has responded to recent polls from Fitch Solutions and Global InfoAnalytics, which indicate he is leading the race for the 2024 general elections.
Fitch Solutions, a UK-based rating agency, recently published a report predicting that the NDC is on track to win the upcoming elections. Similarly, a final field poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows Mahama holding a strong lead over his main rival, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During his tour of the North East Region on Wednesday, October 2, Mahama acknowledged these promising poll results, pointing to the credibility of organisations like Fitch Solutions and Global InfoAnalytics. He said these surveys suggest that the NDC has a high chance of securing victory in 2024.
However, he urged his supporters not to become complacent and to remain vigilant throughout the election period. Mahama stressed the importance of protecting every vote, saying, “Of course, we must not be complacent, we must protect every single person’s vote. All of us are going to be polling agents.”
Mahama also accused the NPP of attempting to mislead the public by circulating fake polls to create a false impression of their candidate’s chances. He said, “All the credible opinion polls have predicted that NDC is going to win the elections, and because of that, NPP and the government have started publishing fake opinion polls, that have no methodology, opinion polls where you cannot find the people who did the research.”
He continued, “Ignore all those fake opinion polls. Everything indicates, and every credible institution—Economy Intelligence Unit, Fitch Solutions, Global InfoAnalytics—every proper, credible opinion poll shows that NDC is going to win the elections.”
According to the Global InfoAnalytics poll, Mahama currently leads with 51.1% of the vote, putting him in a strong position against the NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Fitch Solutions also forecasts a victory for Mahama, citing ongoing challenges for the ruling NPP. Meanwhile, Bawumia’s campaign team has rejected the findings from Global InfoAnalytics.
