Yahya’s encounter with the military was played live on television with Ghanaians expressing fear for his life after the uniform men invaded the polling station unvited.

Taking a cue from what happened at Techiman South and other constitieucies in 2020 where 8 people were shot and killed by the military, it had been agreed that security for the election was going to be provided by only the police.

The Armed Forces had issued a statement signed by the head of the Public Affairs department Colonel Eric Aggrey-Quarshie to confirm this few days to the election and encouraged the general public to report anyone that show up at the polling station claiming to be a soldier to the nearest police station.

Despite this notice, the two soldiers stormed the said polling station fully armed for what residents could not tell immediately. They were therefore confronted by Yahya and one other but the latter chickened out leaving the fight for the NDC communicator with his bare hands.

In the struggle, he was able to overpower the soldiers and ensured they did not have their way. After that encounter, the soldiers who possessed AK47 were seen giving warning shots at one side of the polling station but no one was hurt.

The harrowing spectable had been commended by many Ghanaians who said Yahya needed to be recognized and rewarded for resisting oppressors.
