In a fundraising event organized by the Volta Region branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama took a swipe at his main contender, Vice President Dr. Bawumia, over his comic appeal to be made president in the upcoming December 7 general election.

Mr. Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, derided Dr. Bawumia’s plea to be given the “steering wheel” of leadership, highlighting the Vice President’s lack of experience and credentials compared to himself, whom he likened to an experienced driver.

He commended those who have already contributed to the NDC’s cause, emphasizing the collective effort required to propel the party to victory in the upcoming polls.

As the NDC presses forward with its campaign initiatives, Mr. Mahama reassured attendees of the party’s proactive engagement with the populace through its “Building the Ghana Tour,” which aimed to connect with diverse segments of society to understand their needs and inform the party’s manifesto for the election.

He contrasted the NDC’s forward momentum with the perceived lag in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is yet to unveil its running mate or manifesto.

Overall, Mr. Mahama’s remarks at the fundraising event underscored the NDC’s commitment to grassroots engagement, resource mobilization, and strategic campaign planning as the party gears up for the 2024 general election.
