Mahama Proposes Strengthened Ties Between Ghana and Comoros

President John Dramani Mahama has proposed the establishment of a Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation between Ghana and Comoros to enhance bilateral relations and foster closer collaboration between the two nations.

His proposal came during a meeting with Comorian President Azali Assoumani at the Presidency on Friday. President Assoumani is in Accra to participate in the Africa Prosperity Dialogue 2025.

Highlighting Africa’s vast potential, President Mahama noted that limited trade and cooperation among African nations remain major challenges to the continent’s progress.

“Africa is a burgeoning continent with tremendous potential; however, the low level of trade and cooperation among our countries poses a significant drawback,” he said.

He underscored the importance of dialogues and forums like the Africa Prosperity Dialogue in fostering discussions on enhancing Africa’s economic and political integration.

President Mahama also emphasized Ghana’s commitment to promoting the free movement of people, goods, and services across the continent. He commended the increasing adoption of visa-free policies among African countries and reaffirmed Ghana’s belief in unrestricted mobility for Africans.

Ghana, as the host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, remains committed to advancing intra-African trade.

“That’s why Ghana is doing everything to support the Secretariat,” he affirmed.

President Assoumani expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He also congratulated President Mahama on his re-election and praised the peaceful transition of power in Ghana. Additionally, he commended Ghana’s efforts in implementing a visa-free regime for holders of African passports, describing it as a crucial step toward regional integration.
