Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim has asserted that President Mahama is not a leader to abuse the rights of citizens, rather, to lead a fair and just nation.

Her comment follows the criticism by Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin following the arrest of a journalist Okatayie Afrifa by national security operatives.

What we can tell the general public is that there is really a new heart of leadership, a heart that is very in tuned with the people that it is leading, a heart that wants the best for this nation and wants to lead a nation that is fair and just and equitable, even those that may be found on the wrong side of the law.

“Because even convicted criminals have rights that must always be respected and enforced and so you will not have the person of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to be seen to be flagrantly abusing the rights of citizens, it won’t happen.

“But due process will happen and individuals of interest will be pursued and all the available options to the security agencies to gather their intelligence and to take the necessary actions so we can bring the accountability that they voted has for ,” she stated.
