In the quest to use awards as an incentive to influence positive behaviour, the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), the local chapter Transparency International, held its maiden Integrity Awards in Accra last Monday as the Auditor General, Mr. Daniel Domelovo emerged as the Integrity Personality of the Year.
He was nominated in that same category with Freelance Investigative Journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, Managing Director of Ghana Publishing Company, Mr. David Boateng Asante, Mr. Ato Ulzen-Appiah, Director, GhanaThink Foundation and Ing. Edward Sowah Adjetey of the State Housing Company.
The Award Ceremony climaxed GII’s 20th Anniversary Commemoration launched in August this year to recognise and highlight institutions and individuals who uphold and project high standards of integrity, transparency and accountability in their operations towards the fight against corruption.
The awards were put into five categories – Policy and Administrative Reforms; Transparency and Social Accountability; Efficient Public Service Delivery; Effective Internal Control and Enforcement and Integrity Personality of the Year.
The nominees for the categories were selected based on a “good initiative” of a project or an action that has been undertaken by an individual, organization which has been innovative and brought about enormous significant impact in the fight against corruption.
However, there was no winner in the category of effective Internal Control and Enforcement.
