Nana Kofi Amofa, a 43-year-old father of three and resident of Kasoa in the Central Region has found himself in the custody of the police after he allegedly attempted to sell his niece, 6, at a cost of GHC150,000.
His arrest was effected by personnel of the Kasoa Police Intelligence Unit on Tuesday, July 24, 2024, while the girl was rescued to safety.
According to a report filed by Seth Matey on UTV, the suspect intended to sell his senior brother’s eldest daughter to get a Visa to Canada.
He is said to have visited his brother at Nyamebekyere in Akyem Ayiribi in the Eastern Region to request for the girl under the pretext of finding a better school for her in the city.
“He visited his brother, a father of three with the oldest being six years. He proposed to take the 6-year-old to a school in the city which was accepted by his brother. Without the knowledge of his brother, he determined to sell her off at GHC150,000.”
Upon his return to Obolo, where he was resident, he is reported to have scavenged for a buyer only for it to end up in the ears of the police and end him in their grips.
“He announced it all over that he was selling the girl. One of his neighbours who heard it reported it to the Police Intelligence Unit at Kasoa. The officers under the disguise of buyers approached him. They bargained for GHC150,000. On the day of the transaction, when the child was to be handed over, he was arrested. His intention was to use the money to travel to Canada.”
