Man Jailed 30 Years for Robbery

A Circuit Court in Denu on April 9, 2024, sentenced Kossi Desenu, a 36 year old unemployed resident at Beat 13, a suburb of Aflao, to 30 years imprisonment for robbery and causing harm.
The accused appeared before the court for stabbing the lower abdomen of Madam Juliet Kumazah and forcefully snatching her Dodo Smartphone valued at Ghc 800.00.

The court, presided over by His Lordship, Joseph Behome, sentenced the accused to 10 years imprisonment for causing harm and 30 years for robbery after he pleaded guilty to the two counts which are to run concurrently.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court, Investigator, D/Inspr. Gabriel Damadzi said the victim and complainant, Juliet Kumazah is a food vendor and a resident at Beat 9.
On March 30, 2025, at about 5:00am, the complainant was on her way to collect cooking oil from one Grace at Huime, also a surburb of Aflao but on reaching a section of the road near a garden, the accused emerged with a knife and demanded that the complainant stops and threatened to harm her if she did not comply.
The accused then attempted to snatch her mobile phone, but she resisted, and in the process, the accused stabbed her in the lower abdomen and made away with the phone.

Juliet later lodged a complaint at the Aflao Police Station and was issued with a medical form to attend hospital for treatment.
On April 6, 2025, the complainant spotted the accused in her area and raised the alarm, attracting some neighbors, who assisted in arresting the accused and handed him over to the police.
Investigations revealed that the accused sold the mobile phone to an unknown individual at the cost of Ghc 150.00
Meanwhile, the complainant has since been treated and discharged and is currently in good health.
