March 29, April 1 Declared Holidays
The Ministry of Interior has declared this Friday and next Monday as statutory public holidays in commemoration of Easter, a Christian festival commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.
A statement issued by the Minister for Interior, Henry Quartey affirmed the holidays and directed them to be observed accordingly across the country.
โThe general public is hereby informed that ๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐๐๐ฒ, ๐๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก, ๐๐๐๐ and ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ฒ, ๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ, ๐๐๐๐, which mark ๐๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐๐๐ฒ and ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ฒ respectively, are Statutory Public Holidays and should be observed as such throughout the country.โ
The festival marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.
Easter-observing Christians commonly refer to the week before Easter as Holy Week, which in Western Christianity begins on Palm Sunday, marking Jesusโ entry into Jerusalem.
