March 29, April 1 Declared Holidays

The Ministry of Interior has declared this Friday and next Monday as statutory public holidays in commemoration of Easter, a Christian festival commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

A statement issued by the Minister for Interior, Henry Quartey affirmed the holidays and directed them to be observed accordingly across the country.

โ€œThe general public is hereby informed that ๐…๐ซ๐ข๐๐š๐ฒ, ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ—๐ญ๐ก ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’ and ๐Œ๐จ๐ง๐๐š๐ฒ, ๐Ÿ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐€๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’, which mark ๐†๐จ๐จ๐ ๐…๐ซ๐ข๐๐š๐ฒ and ๐„๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐Œ๐จ๐ง๐๐š๐ฒ respectively, are Statutory Public Holidays and should be observed as such throughout the country.โ€

The festival marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.

Easter-observing Christians commonly refer to the week before Easter as Holy Week, which in Western Christianity begins on Palm Sunday, marking Jesusโ€™ entry into Jerusalem.
