“Marry someone who loves you not someone who likes you” – Edward Akwasi Boateng
According to him, although people intertwin the use of both and like and love in a relationship, there is an enormous difference.
Edward Akwasi Boateng, a renowned gospel musician, has advised the youth and Ghanaians at large on the importance of understanding the role both love and like plays in a marital life.
According to him, although people intertwin the use of both and like and love in a relationship, there is an enormous difference.
The veteran musician, who has been a victim of failed marriage, says individuals should prioritize marrying someone who loves them, rather than someone who simply likes them.
He explained that the distinction between love and like is crucial in maintaining a healthy and fulfilling marriage. He said when someone loves another person, they are willing to make sacrifices and put in the effort required to keep the relationship strong. However, if someone only likes another person, they may be more inclined to leave the relationship once they have achieved their desired outcome or when things become challenging.
“There are two major things in marriage, we have love and love and there is a very big difference between both of them. If you marry someone who likes you, then once that person gets what he likes about you, he or she will leave you.
“So when you are getting married, you have to look for someone that loves you. As the Bible says, love is not selfish and love is kind.” He advised.
The 54-year old gospel musician further cautioned the populace especially men to desist from the notion of marrying someone to take care of the person but they should rather marry someone who can compliment their efforts in life.
“You don’t have to marry someone with the motive of taking care of the person, you have to choose someone who can support you in your time of need, you should consider our salary and that of your partner before you get married. In the Western countries, you get married when you want to prosper in life but over here, you get married when you want to be poor.” He said.
Edward Akwasi Boateng continued, “Life is full of uncertainty, if you don’t analyse your steps, you may end up at a place that you will regret for the rest of your life, you don’t have to compare your life to others, you only do those comparing when you want to learn something positive from the person you are comparing your life with.
“You have to be focused in life, set your target and get your priorities straight. If not, you will regret later in life.”
