An Aspiring Parliamentary Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Offinso North Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Ofosu Acheampong Ceaser, has called on the Special Prosecutor, Martin Alamisi Amidu, to as a matter of urgency tender in his resignation letter to the President to avert any disgrace on his personality.
Ofosu Acheampong is convinced that the nation’s first ever special Prosecutor is a failure and has disgraced himself by rendering the office useless after failing to discharge his duties as demands of him, as such, he must resign and also refund all monies and remunerations paid him for no job done.
“Martin Alamisi Amidu the Special Prosecutor is a failure to the state and must resign or be sacked without any hesitation, he has rendered that office useless as nothing goes in or comes out. We were told during the 2016 election campaign that the Mahama led NDC government was engulfed with corruption and for that matter the NPP promised to set up an office of the Special Prosecutor to prosecute all those corrupt Mahama appointees, they won the power, the office is established for about two years now not a single person of the erstwhile Mahama appointees has been charged or prosecuted,” he stated in a recent interview with Ghananewsonline.com.gh.
According to the professional teacher “the Act establishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor (Act 595) is clear that the Special Prosecutor is solely to prosecute corrupt people who have in one way or the other amass wealth at the expense of the ordinary people of this country”.
The Assembly Member for Mkankaasu electoral area revealed that also that “aside tagging the previous government as corrupt which the Special Prosecutor may need time to collate evidence to prosecute the culprits, what about the over one hundred alleged corruptions scandals associated with the governing NPP administration. The cash for seat saga, the bulk oil distribution saga, among others. Do not forget the recent Power Distributors Service saga where owners of barbering shops turn to be electrical engineers; is Martin Amidu saying he has not heard of it or what? He should have by now started prosecuting those involved.
“I have lost confidence in him, I had known Martin Amidu to be that vigorous man who does not shield corruption, we haven’t forgotten the role he played in retrieving the ‘Woyome money’ which earned him the name Citizen Vigilante” he stated.
