Master Plan for the Redevelopment of Ghana Int. Trade Fair unveiled

The Ghana International Trade Fair Company Limited is ready to engage potential investors for a partnership in its ambitious but financially rewarding Trade Fair Site Redevelopment Project.

The Ghana Trade Fair Redevelopment Project is one of the initiatives being deployed by the Akufo-Addo government to re-position the country as the most preferred place to do business in Africa by upgrading the Ghana Trade Fair facility into a model city equipped with all the modern facilities fit to host local and international conferences as well as trade exhibitions.

The ambitious project which is expected to be in full swing between the next three to five years is scheduled for a sod cutting ceremony for the commencement of the horizontal development infrastructure by the 3rd quarter of the year 2019 while the commencement of the second phase of the is scheduled for the 3rd quarter of the year 2020.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited, Dr. Agnes Adu, the facility which was built between 1960 and 1966, “has seen better days and the next natural step is to redevelop and rebuild the entire site and bring it up to modern standards”.

She made the comment at an Investor Conference for the Ghana Trade Fair Site Redevelopment Project held within the premises of the Trade Fair site in Accra on Thursday, July 25, 2019.

The investor Conference which was patronized by some 300 investors, according to the organizers, was used to unveil the government’s master plan for the project and the road-map to redevelop and re-plan the whole site as well as invite investors for partnerships.

Also present at the event were powerful government officials such as the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and Minister for Planning, Professor George Gyan-Barffour, as well as officials from the Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC).

The Ghana Trade Fair Facility is located in the heart of Ghana’s capital city, Accra on a 156 acre land with pavilions and other related facilities most of which are currently in a deplorable state.

Government as the sole shareholder seeks to refocus the Ghana Trade Fair Company (GTFC) on its operations to become a profitable, well-resourced and efficiently run institution capable of playing the role envisaged so many years ago.

In line with this new direction, GTFCL CEO Dr. Agnes Adu, in her welcome message at the conference indicated that “GTFCL seeks to focus on its core mandate of trade promotion and facilitation and allow other investors to focus on the provision of ancillary services that support this core mandate utilizing its assets, including the land and other infrastructure at its disposal.”

This, according to the CEO, will entail the redevelopment of the entire site and the company believes that the redevelopment project represents a unique opportunity for the GTFCL to maximize the capacity of Ghana’s global market infrastructure as well as construct a resilient and thriving platform for trade, while promoting Ghanaian human and material resources.

“This redevelopment project will provide the nation with a modern mixed-use, smart, green and sustainable enclave which will promote the core mandate of Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited through hosting conventions, exhibitions and trade shows and will serve as hub of domestic, sub-regional and international trade and commerce.

“The revamped facility will also host a made-in-Ghana technology hub which will be a center for commercial, research and high-end manufacturing to support the government’s industrialization drive into the 21st Century.” She indicated.
