Unimpeachable information gathered by this medium reveals that the parents of Sabed, a pupil of Mayera Adusa Quarters Junior Basic School in the Trobo Constituency, have absconded with their son after he allegedly set two juveniles ablaze on January 8, 2025. The family fled their residence at the Electricity Area in Mayera to an unknown location.

According to eyewitnesses, Sabed used litramol alcohol to set fire to two young boys — Daniel Amponsah, 7, and John Evans Quansah, 8 — during a tragic incident that occurred in the afternoon of January 8. The children were reportedly playing football at the residence of Madam Gertrude, Daniel’s mother, when Sabed approached them and invited them to witness what he described as a “magic trick.”

Eyewitness accounts suggest that Sabed claimed to have brought a chemical from school used for burning rubbish. He then spread the substance — later identified as litramol alcohol — on a wall where the children were seated. Without warning, he struck a match, igniting a sudden burst of flames that engulfed the two unsuspecting boys.

While Daniel sustained burns to his feet, John’s injuries were far more severe. The fire caught onto the nylon shirt he was wearing, resulting in extensive burns across his torso. Efforts by bystanders to extinguish the flames were only partially successful.

Father Recounts Trauma

Speaking to this reporter, John’s father, Mr. Daniel Asiedu, recounted the devastating moment he received news of his son’s injury. “I had just given him money for lunch after school and left for a meeting. Barely had I arrived when I received distress calls that my son had been seriously burned.”

Mr. Asiedu said his son was initially rushed to the Anglican Medical Centre at Pokuase. Upon arrival, doctors had to remove layers of his burnt skin to manage the injury. Two days later, the boy was referred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital at Ridge, where he has remained on admission since January 11, 2025.

Mounting Medical Costs and Lingering Pain

John’s prolonged hospitalization has taken a toll on both his education and his family’s finances. “He hasn’t been able to attend school this entire term, while Sabed continues his education as if nothing happened,” Mr. Asiedu lamented. “The hospital bills are immeasurable. My wife and I have gone bankrupt. We’re now appealing to anyone who can help — is there no help from Macedonia?” he asked in desperation.

Daniel Amponsah, who suffered less severe burns, was unable to attend school for two weeks as he recovered at home.

Absconding Parents Under Fire

Mr. Asiedu did not hold back his disappointment in Sabed’s parents, describing their actions as “cold, irresponsible, and inhumane.” He claims they have shown no remorse, never visited the victim in hospital, and barely called to inquire about his condition. The news of their disappearance with Sabed has further angered him.

“I am completely shocked. But I will not relent. I will pursue this matter until the law takes its full course,” he vowed.

The matter has left the Mayera community in shock, with many calling for justice and accountability in what has become a heartbreaking case of child endangerment and parental negligence.
