The Chief Executive of the Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA), Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah, has outlined some major achievements and developmental projects currently ongoing in his municipality ever since he took office.
He said, his vision is to facilitate the improvement of the quality of life of residents within his jurisdiction through equitable provision of services.
The MCE disclosed this on Friday during the meet-the-press series for Municipal, Metropolitan and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to outline their various projects and achievements in the community.
Nii-Noi Adumuah touched on areas like Agriculture, Infrastructure development, local economic development, roads, security, justice system, health, sanitation, education, street naming and property address system, social inclusiveness and vulnerability, LEAP and other relevant ongoing projects.
Agriculture
The MCE said since agriculture contributes immensely to the national GDP and also creates employment, the assembly is promoting Urban/Peri-Urban agriculture due to limited land space in the municipality.
He said, about 200 farmers in the Adentan municipality have benefitted from various training programmes and technical including the introduction of backyard fish farming, livestock, vegetable and Aquaponics.
Infrastructure Development
According to the MCE, several infrastructure projects are under review some of which include the construction of ultra-modern classroom block in Adenta and Ashiyie, 3-storey court complex at Fafraha, a clinic at Adjiringanor with phase-1 already completed.
Others include the construction of office complex at Amanfrom, staff bungalows at lakeside estate, 12 unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at New Legon, Kitchen facilities, restructuring of corn millers shops into offices at Ogbojo for the Zonal Council, among others.
Sanitation
In the area of sanitation, Nii-Noi Adumuah indicated that the Assembly has engaged with some waste collection companies to provide services to residents in the municipality adding, “we will continue to co-ordinate, monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of their performance,”
In addition, he said, the assembly has mounted about 12 Central containers at vantage places like the markets, accessible and low income communities to enable residents dispose off garbage in a more acceptable and better environment.
“The assembly continues to educate residents on its sanitation bye-laws and also undertake regular inspection of the communities for enforcement. We also have plans to partner other institutions and possibly for the construction of a material recovery site to ensure waste collected can be disposed off effectively,” he added.
The MCE again added that the assemblies has benefited from the GAMA sanitation and Water project undertaken by the government which have ensured the construction of about 1,800 household toilet facilities in the municipality.
“We came and met about 204 household toilet facilities in the municipality but through the GAMA project, we have added 1,800 to the already existing ones in the communities including distribution of bins to schools and public places” he said.
Education
According to the Adentan Chief Executive, the assembly has seen a significant surge in development in the education sector to ensure accessibility and quality across the municipality.
He indicated that several projects are ongoing under the education unit including provision of desks and furniture.
“The assembly at the beginning of this year commenced the construction of a three-storey 18 unit classroom block at New Legon to cater for school children who have had to commute to other communities to attend school over the years. It is believed that this would bring relief to both children and parents residing in that area through improved access,” the MCE indicated.
Local Economic Development
On the economic development, the Adentan MCE disclosed that the European Union (EU) has taken the mandate to support the assembly and the Center for Local Governance Advocacy and Local Governance Network with funding to implement about two local economic development projects like mushroom production and fish for development projects (FIDEP) in the municipality.
“So far, over 5,500 people have been trained to produce mushroom along the value chain, 48 farmers including 12 people with disabilities (PWDs) have been given support with an amount of GHs 92,000 without interest,” he stated.
He said, under Government’s flagship program!me “Planting for food and Jobs”, about 493 (both men and women) have benefited from the initiative through providing subsidized seeds and fertilizers including 543 liters of assorted chemicals to control the Fall Army Worm
He said the assembly has improved the security system in the municipality through the installation of new street lights, repairs, property naming and street addressing and improved cordial relationships between the assembly and residents.
“The Assembly utilizes the residents/landlords Association platforms to educate the public on personal security and also foster cordial relationship with residents,” he disclosed.
“Also, the assembly has commenced the construction of office accommodation to house our Zonal Councils to make them effective in their services to the people,” he stated.
Nii-Noi Adumuah acknowledged the effort of the government in improving the District Assembly elections and called on all citizens to participate in the upcoming referendum that would ensure the election MMDCEs in the country.
He assured residents that the Assembly would continue to roll out infrastructure and human centered development programmes to improve the living standards of the people and also ensure the realization of the vision of the municipality.
