Michael Osei pleads with GFA to give local coaches time to acquire the License ‘A’ certificate

Ghana U-23 assistant coach Michael Osei has appealed to the Ghana Football Association to give the local coaches without license ‘A’ time to acquire the certificate.

A requirement in the Club Licensing Regulations states that only holders CAF License A or it’s equivalent qualify to be head coaches of top-flight clubs in the upcoming season.

But Osei has pleaded with the Club Licensing Board to give local coaches time to acquire the requisite certificate.

The German-trained gaffer claims some coaches have done so well on the local scene even though they don’t have the license ‘A’ certificate.

“The FA should give the local coaches without license ‘A’ time to acquire their certificate, for example, an experienced coach like Johnson Smith who leads Karela FC to performed better in the league really shows he is competent and needs to be given the opportunity to work on his certificate.” He said on OTEC FM in Kumasi.

“The GFA should give them (coaches without license ‘A’) some approved paper (certificates) for the meantime until they get their license ‘A’ certificate.”

Moreover, the former Asante Kotoko SC trainer has called on ex-footballers to take up coaching because he believes it is easier for them to excel.

“We the coaches with license ‘A’ expect to have the old footballers on board to make our coaching system competent and competitive.”

“Coaching is easier for former footballers because they have tasted the grass before, currently, a lot of coaches in Europe are former players so we need to find some way for our local coaches to acquire for the license ‘A’ certificates.”
