The facility will enhance local healthcare access and support the production of affordable, high-quality medications while creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.

A New Era in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Once completed, the new plant will become one of the largest and most advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in West Africa.

The facility will produce a range of essential medications for the treatment of conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, malaria, and pain management.

The project’s completion will help improve access to these critical medications across Ghana and other African countries, particularly by increasing the availability of locally manufactured, GMP-compliant drugs.

Economic and Social Impact

Beyond healthcare, the plant is expected to transform the local economy. The construction and operation of the facility will create over 1,000 jobs, with many positions being filled by local residents.

In addition to direct employment, the project is expected to stimulate growth for local businesses, contributing to the overall economic vitality of the Akosombo-Akwamu area.

“The new plant is a testament to our commitment to innovation and local empowerment,” said Willard Jackson, Executive Partner at MiKO Pharma. “By investing in Ghana’s pharmaceutical sector, we aim to improve healthcare access, create sustainable jobs, and drive economic growth. This facility marks a significant milestone in our journey toward a healthier, more prosperous future for all.”

MiKO Pharma remains committed to environmental sustainability and will implement eco-friendly practices throughout the plant’s operations. The facility will use advanced technology to minimise waste and reduce its carbon footprint, adhering to global sustainability standards in pharmaceutical production. These efforts are in line with MiKO Pharma’s long-term commitment to sustainable development in Ghana’s growing industrial sector.

Strategic Partnerships and Global Reach

MiKO Pharma’s project is backed by key industry partnerships, including collaborations with Siemens and India-based Sushen Medicamentos Pvt. Ltd.

Sushen Medicamentos will bring its expertise in pharmaceutical project management, formulation, operations, and research & development to ensure that products manufactured at the new facility meet the highest international standards.

While 70% of the pharmaceuticals in Ghana’s market are currently imported, MiKO Pharma seeks to shift that balance by increasing local production to meet domestic needs. The plant will play a pivotal role in advancing the Ghanaian government’s goal of boosting local pharmaceutical production over the next decade.

MiKO Pharma also aims to export its products to global markets, including Europe and the Americas. This ambition will help position Ghana as a key player in the international pharmaceutical landscape.

Commitment to Healthcare and Economic Growth

MiKO Pharma’s new facility will play a vital role in improving healthcare access for millions across the African continent. The company’s CEO and Founder, Dr. Michael K. Obeng, emphasised the broader vision behind the project:

“The groundbreaking of our new manufacturing plant is not just a significant step for MiKO Pharma but for the entire African continent. We aim to produce drugs by Africans, for Africans, and to contribute meaningfully to the global pharmaceutical landscape. This project is a critical part of our mission to achieve pharmaceutical emancipation and to promote the well-being of all Africans. I firmly believe that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.”

Invitation to the Groundbreaking Ceremony

MiKO Pharma Gh., Ltd. extends a warm invitation to members of the press, government officials, traditional leaders, industry experts, and community members to join the ground-breaking ceremony on October 1, 2024. This event signifies the start of an exciting new chapter in the company’s journey to expand access to life-saving medications, foster local economic development, and position Ghana as a leader in the global pharmaceutical market.

With this significant investment, MiKO Pharma reaffirms its dedication to healthcare innovation, local empowerment, and sustainable growth for Ghana and the broader African continent.
