The Ministers of Interior and Defense have jointly assured the nation of full collaboration between the two institutions to promote peace and security in Tamale and its environs.
Ambrose Derry of the Interior Ministry gave the assurance in Parliament on Tuesday in a joint statement with the Ministry of Defense on the violent clashes between some military and Police personnel in Tamale last week Wednesday.
According to the minister, the two institutions have agreed to fully implement existing guidelines regarding the handling of personnel on disciplinary issues and breaches of the law. They are of the belief that this adherence will forestall future unfortunate incidents.
He said a five member committee composed by the two institutions and the Attorney General’s Department have been set up to conduct detailed investigations into the causes of the clashes and recommended further interventions beyond existing guidelines and protocols.
The Member of Parliament for Tamale constituency, who doubles as the minority leader in parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, said he was happy about the collaboration and the peace this has brought to his constituency. He was of the view that the journey embarked on by the two agencies will go a long way to curb the issue of insecurity in his constituency.
So far full operational cooperation has been restored in Tamale and the entire northern region as pertains in the other regions of the country.
