Minority group in Parliament contemplating a Vote of no Confidence on Alan Kyerematen

The Honorable Member of Parliament for the Asawase constituency in the Ashanti region, who doubles as the Chief Whip of the Minority side, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed has plans to file a sensor against the Minister responsible for Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen for his failure to attend upon the House to answer questions in relation to his ministry.

According to the Minority Whip for the Minister to decline an invitation to answer questions on the Floor for three consecutive times is a sign of disrespect to the House and therefore necessary actions must be taken against him to serve as a deterrent to other Ministers of States who do not want to take the House seriously.

“Mr. Speaker he doesn’t want to come and answer to the people but when it came to the President they were all sitting here,” Muntaka fumed.

However, deputy majority leader and the Honorable MP for the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo, in a response to Muntaka claimed the Minister has officially written to Parliament asking permission to travel to the United Kingdom (UK) with the vice president, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia for a summit.

She was of the view that the minority whip is blowing the issue out of proportion because it is not as he is painting the picture to seem.  She backed her claims with order 93(2) of the Standing Orders of the House, adding that the Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen is only attending to functions equally important to him as a minister and the nation as a whole, hence the minister will come and answer the questions put in his name.

Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye directed that the leadership of the house should discuss the issue and help profer solution to enable the House deal with matters of such nature in the future.
