Minority Leadership shake-up: Muntaka rallies caucus to unite behind new leaders after Mahama intervention
Under the new leadership, the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam MP, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson replaces the Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader. Also, Ellembele MP, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah replaces Dr James Klutse Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader while Adaklu MP, Kwame Governs Agbodza has been elevated to Minority Chief Whip status replacing Asawase MP, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak.
The Member of Parliament for Asawase in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak has rallied the Minority caucus to unite behind their new leaders.
This comes after the National Executives of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced a major shake-up in its parliamentary leadership.
A letter addressed by Fifi Fiavi Kwetey announced the replacement of the Haruna Iddrisu-led leadership with an Ato Forson-led one.
Under the new leadership, the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam MP, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson replaces the Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader. Also, Ellembele MP, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah replaces Dr James Klutse Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader while Adaklu MP, Kwame Governs Agbodza has been elevated to Minority Chief Whip status replacing Asawase MP, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak.
The aftermath of that announcement led to agitations from a section of the NDC MPs who lamented the timing of the change. Some 70 of such MPs led by the outgone Minority Chief, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak held a press conference saying the right thing to do was to have consulted the entire minority caucus before any decision of that nature had been taken since the party cannot just sit somewhere and appoint leaders for MPs
But the MP appears to have backtracked on his earlier position after a meeting with former President John Dramani Mahama.
Taking to his Facebook page, he urged all his supporters to focus on the task ahead and put aside their disagreement over the reshuffle.
