Mixed reactions from Constituents as Boniface Cleans Madina

The Honorable Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina constituency, Boniface Abu-Bakar Sadique has taken it upon himself to clean up Madina to be in line with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s plan of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa by the time he (President) leaves office.

As such, on May Day, i.e. first May, 2019, he organized a clean-up exercise for the suburb to rid it of filth which had and engulfed the hither to clean suburb of late.

This, exercise he under took in in-collaboration with the municipal assembly and zoom lion company. Taking off at around 7:00am the MP and his cleaning group, comprising staff from zoom lion, officials from the assembly, party members and a sector of the Madina community, they cleaned areas as the “Oman FM” area, Hannah Nursery, Zongo junction, the traffic light leading to central Madina and Madina market.

Dubbed, “keep Madina clean”, Hon. Boniface, did not only lead the group in the exercise, but also took part by playing active role, to the surprise of  both by stander’s and participants.

This, he did through sweeping, jumping into chocked gutters, especially, those between Zongo junction and Madina market, desalting them and also collecting refuse into waiting wheel barrows.

His action was however met with mixed feelings from the public. As such, whereas some poured praises on him for his exemplarily leadership role in the exercise, others simply hurled insults at him, especially his own party members, who traded at these places, most of whom who refused to participate in the exercise. Some however joined the exercise, especially Madam Rita who keeps a big shop by the market street. According to her, since her MP was undertaking this exercise she had to close her shop and join in the exercise to keep the place clean.

owever, those who spoke well of the MP for the exercise, as some put it “in fact, he has done well and must be very tired now, because he joined the exercise right from the start.

We thought he would stand by and give institutions. But surprisingly he has fully taken part in the whole exercise. “In fact he will win again” they were overheard saying.

The over 4- hour clean up exercise became so encompassing that it attracted both young and old. Messes Dom Ofosu, Madina NPP constituency secretary and his chairman President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’, member of NPP council of Elders and many more followed the exercise throughout with enthusiasm while praising the MP.

Chairman Yeboah while thanking the people for showing up in the exercise, noted that Hon. Sadique was doing this in line with Nana Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Accra cleanest city in Africa by the time he leaves office.

He therefore urged the people to turn up in their numbers anytime they are called upon to come and clean up the community.

On his part, Hon Sadique was thankful to all who had made the exercise possible especially, zoom lion which provided logistics, staff, and vehicles to desilt gutters as well as these to cart collected refuse away.

He pointed out that though notice for the exercise was short especially on the CEO of zoom lion attendance was not only massive, but also very encouraging. While dissembling it as very successful, Hon. Sadique charged the people to come in their numbers in subsequent exercises, which he intimated, would be made on periodic (monthly) basis stressing that “cleanliness is next to godliness”.

The MP also charged them to guard against vigilantism and kidnappings which had gained new grounds in the country. Being appreciative of his efforts, the affordable MP was accorded much pleasantness warm embraces and acknowledgement by his numerous admirers and enthusiasts.
