The National Communications Officer of the largest opposition party IN Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has lambasted the Akufo-Addo led administration over what he called “nepotism” which is at the highest level in the history of the country.
The NDC party has therefore called on Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and well-meaning Ghanaians to join advocate for an anti-nepotism law in the country to help address the canker.
The Communication Officer said this at the press conference organized by the party to outline the misleading attitudes and irregularities of the ruling party.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the enactment of the anti-nepotism legislation can help check abuse of political power in the advancement of nepotistic agenda, adding, that the law can take the form of the United States Code which forbids a public official from appointing a relative to a civilian position in an agency.
“The institutionalization of nepotism by the President, Akufo-Addo, the enactment of an anti-nepotism legislation to help check abuse of political power in the advancement of the nepotistic agenda, his acolytes and any unforeseen recurrence is long overdue,” he added.
The NDC Communication Officer further accused the President of handling over state agencies and firms like the oil and financial sectors to cronies and confidants of the party, hence, resulting in a state capture, to enrich party folks.
He mentioned some NPP party folks like Nana Asante Bediatuo, Kofi Darko Asanti, Vida Asante, Kwesi Kuntu Asanti, Lauretta Asanti, Samuel Atta Akyea, Kwesi Amoako Atta, Ken Ofori Atta, Gabby Okyere-Darko, Edward Akufo-Addo among others as close confidants of the President who are looting the coffers of the nation.
“Others include the senior Minister, Osafo Maafo and his sons, the family of the Vice President’s wife, Samira Bawumia, In-laws of the President and his vice and other related families with front line positions in the current administration,” he said.
He argued that such nepotistic attitude must be totally curbed to avoid any future occurrences among politicians and the President in the country like Ghana.
