More details have emerged about how businessman, Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, used his political connections to take over some East Legon lands belonging to a widow and a colleague businessman.

Of particular concern is how he tried to coerce the widow to sign a dubious Settlement Agreement to enable him take ownership of her land.

If McDan had succeeded in swindling the poor widow, he would have paid a meagre GHc200,000 for the parcel of land which has a street value of $500,000.

The land, situated at Lagos Avenue, near KFC, East Legon, originally belonged to the late husband of the widow – Madam Theresa Paintsil, who later took control of the land.

Illegal entry

Without the knowledge of Madam Theresa Paintsil, McDan allegedly entered the land and started developing it.

All attempts by the woman to stop him failed because he used his political connections in the immediate past New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to push his way through .

Bogus Settlement Agreement

The Settlement Agreement McDan prepared, which Madam Theresa Paintsil refused to sign, had it that he would pay only GHc 200,000 to cover the cost of the land.

This was in spite of the fact that the value of the land at the time was about $500,000.

Out of the GHc200,000, MacDan inserted in the Settlement Agreement that he would pay an initial GHc100,000 and pay the rest in instalments.

This was outrightly rejected by the widow but McDan has gone ahead with the construction of a high-rise building which is in an advanced stage of completion.

Charles Oppong Kyekyeku

With regards to the other victim, Charles Oppong Kyekyeku, he holds the title to the land but McDan bulldozed his way through, using his connection with the last government to take over the land and start development on it.

Evidence abounds that McDan has persistently warned the owner of the land to stay off the property since his safety cannot be guaranteed.
