It could be recalled that upon the demise of the then paramount chief of James Town, Nii Kojo Ababio V, Nii Kojo Ahuma III, known in private life as Henry Nunoo Koppoe was properly nominated, elected, and installed in 2018 by the kingmakers but Prince Asharku Quaye has also been parading himself as the chief.

This Prince Asharku did on February 1st, 2018 when he led a group to break into the Ngleshie Alata Stool room to perform some rituals when he was denied keys to enter the stool room on grounds that he doesn’t qualify to enter because he is not a chief.

In a video that went viral Prince William Asharku Bruce-Quaye and his team were seen using a pinch bar and a hammer to break open the door to the stool room. They managed to execute that successfully.

This unruly behaviour has rather found favour with the Nungua Mantse who has gone out of his way to have Prince Asharku -Quaye gazetted through any means possible, in clear violations of the laid down rules.
This unhealthy development brings to the fore the type of people occupying positions of trust in several sectors of the country.

The Paramount Chief of Nungua King Odaifio Welentsi III on behalf of Prince Asharku Bruce- Quaye invited the acting president of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council, Nii Armah Kwafio II to plead with him to ensure that he signs the Chieftaincy Declaration (CD) form for Prince Asharku Bruce- Quaye whose legitimacy as Chief of James Town is being challenged at several quarters.

The delay to have Prince Asharku gazzetted is a worry to King Welentsi and no one knows the reason why because Nungua does not have oversight responsibility over Ngleshie Alata.

Be that as it may, King Welentsi attributed the delay in gazzetting Prince Asharku to the refusal by the acting president of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council, Nii Armah Kwafio II to commence the process, so he invited him over for deliberations over the matter for onward submission to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs in Dodowa where according to him (King Welentsi) calls the shots.

Surprised to see Nii Armah Kwafio II in the company of two other men he questioned why he didn’t come alone and asked whether he trusts those accompanying him. Nii Kwafio responded that he trusts them very well before they were ushered into the living room.

In the video, King Odaifio Welentsi III is heard telling the acting president of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council, Nii Armah Kwafio II that human beings are bad and that some persons have vowed to have him removed from office.

According to King Welentsi, per his position as the Vice Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, he is clothed with some powers which makes it possible for him to change or transfer all civil servants at the regional house of chiefs within two to three weeks those who refuse to do as he (Welentsi)pleases.

Whiles the discussions were ongoing, King Welentsi placed a call to a lady at the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs (he called her Mami Osofo, also called Tracy) and told her that he is dispatching the acting president of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council, Nii Armah Kwafio II to her office to enable her assist him to hurriedly initiate the process to have Asharku Bruce Quaye’s gazette expedited upon swiftly.

After several exchanges with her over the phone on who and what to do to go contrary to the laid down procedures, he advised Tracy that as a civil servant you must be flexible in your dealings but if you strive to be principled you will be poor so it’s important that you bend the rules to enable you survive the harsh economic conditions in the country in other that they support you regularly when the need arises.

King Welentsi then put his phone on speaker where Tracy assured Nii Armah kwafio II, that so far as King Welentsi is involved, he has nothing to worry about and that if he goes ahead to sign the Chieftaincy Declaration (CD) form for Prince Asharku Quaye everything will be fine.

King Welentsi then shifts the goal posts and talks about Wednesday’s, being his sacred days (days on which he doesn’t go out) he encouraged Nii Kwafio II to go back and find amicable working relation with Jessie (former registrar of Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council) while he pulls the strings from the regional house.

“Hear King Welensti, Jessie is a woman, I repeat jessie is a woman if you weigh her and you think you can take her to a hotel and have some rounds of sex with her before you tell her what is at stake then you do so, working relations of such nature is fun.”

King Welentsi boasted that he is the face of the Ga State so if anyone of them is having challenges he should be the first port of call because he won’t allow anyone to do as he or she pleases.

Nii Armah kwafio II is heard asking King odaifio Welentsi that if he goes ahead to sign, wouldn’t there be a problem because there exists a chief already in the name of Nii Ahuma Kojo III he will have any problem, Nii Odaifio assured him that he wouldn’t have any problem and he will be there to defend him any day.

The maneuverings by King Welentsi to the acting president of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council, Nii Armah Kwafio II to sign the Chieftaincy Declaration (CD) form for Prince Asharku Bruce-Quaye with the promise that he will be rewarded handsomely points to the fact some self-seeking induced leaders of the regional house of chiefs are bent on secretly scheming to have the embattled Prince Asharku Quaye who parades himself under the name Obrempong Wetse Kojo II as chief of James Town, gazzetted despite several court suits challenging his capacity pending at the High court in Accra.

It is believed that King Odaifio prevailed on his colleagues on the Judicial Committee of the greater Accra regional house of chiefs which sat on the 15th June 2021 to insert what they referred to as special Kingmakers simply in an attempt to rule on the matter challenging Asharku Quaye’s legibility in his favour.

“We have examined Exhibit and Exhibit 5 and it is clear that the nomination of a paramount chief of Ngleshie Alata (James Town) traditional Area is exclusive to and a preserve of the Kingmakers including the special Kingmakers presided over by the Dzaasetse and the accredited elders of the paramount stool.”

The above quotation from the ruling has been fiercely contested in the sense that under the Ngleshie Alata Traditional practices and norms, there is no such thing as special kingmakers.

Report also indicates that the suit challenging the legitimacy of Asharku Quaye was deliberately swept aside by some individuals at the house who were allegedly bribed to dismiss the suit on the grounds of capacity.

There are fears that any attempt to gazette this embattled self-imposed chief, could be scuppered by some aggrieved youths who are against the shoddy work done by the Judicial Committee.
