MP for Central Tongu wants Carlos Ahenkorah prosecuted for distributing COVID-19

Member of Parliament for the Central Tongu constituency, Alexander Hottordze, has urged the police to arrest the former Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry for allegedly infecting innocent People with COVID-19.

According to Hottordze, the police must immediately invite his colleague MP for the Tema West Constituency for his “wicked act” of deliberately infecting others with the virus without recourse to the laid down quarantine protocol.

Ahenkorah resigned in the early hours of Friday, July 3, 2020 as a Deputy Minister following his own admission in media interviews that he has tested positive but went round to monitor the voter registration exercise in his Constituency.

In the process he infected his personal driver as well as a member of his campaign team who has been reportedly died from the disease.

In an interview with Journalists in Parliament, a visibly angry MP for Central Tongu said, resigning alone is not enough “The police must go for him now and prosecute him to serve as a deterrent to wicked minds out there,” he noted.

He said it is very disastrous for the NPP becuase, “this is the disease that we’re spending billions of Cedis to cure, and as an MP and a Minister of State, he knows that, if you contract the disease and you get closer to others, they will contract it too.

“Why did he go and monitor, or he wanted Ghana to spend more, or he wanted Ghanaians to be wipped out? he questioned.

But the MP for Ablekuma West and Minister of Communication, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has said the prosecution calls and resigning alone is enough punishment.

She added that, Ahenkorah has never breached any law in relation to COVID-19.
