The Honorable Member of Parliament (MP) for the Garu Constituency in the Upper East Region, Albert Akuka Alalzuuga, has handed over a three-Unit classroom block with auxiliary facilities to the Presbyterian Primary School at Tanlengin in the Garu District.
The project, which is valued at about GHc150,000 was funded with the MPs Common Fund and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GetFund).
At a brief handing over ceremony, Akuka Alalzuuga, said the gesture was in response to an appeal to him by the management of the School and some opinion leaders of the Tanlegin community for a primary school block to minimize the problem of overcrowding in the classrooms especially in this COVID era.
He added that the project was also to bridge the educational infrastructure gap the constituency faced.
The lawmaker for Garu hinted, “this project will benefit the children in Tanlengin and its adjoining communities.
The MP urged users of the facility to take proper care of the project to prolong it’s lifespan.
“We should not allow state projects to rot in our hands. Proper maintenance and care should be held in the highest esteem for our own good”, he added.
The Garu District Director of Education, Mr Fredric Alale, who received the keys to the classrooms on behalf of school authorities, expressed gratitude to the MP for the intervention and said it would improve the educational needs of the people.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Garu, Emmanuel Asore, stated that the completion of the project was timely as it would help to ease congestion in classrooms especially during this COVID-19 period as well as improve quality of primary education in the district.
He emphasized that the Assembly would collaborate with the MP as well as other stakeholders to improve the quality of teaching and learning in schools in the district.
The headmaster of the school, Paulina Abugri, expressed gratitude to the MP, and other stakeholders involved in the completion of the edifice and promised to make good use of it.
“I will like to assure all stakeholders that this three-unit classroom block would be put to good use to promote effective teaching and learning,” he assured.
Present at the ceremony were the Local Manager of Presby Schools in Garu District, Rev Michael Gumah, the Contractor, opinion leaders, Parents, Teachers, Community members and the Pupils of the Primary School.
