Newly elected Member of Parliament for Keta, Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey has embarked on a Health Screening exercise throughout the constituency. This forms part of programs aimed at keeping his constituents in good health to be able to take full advantage of other economic opportunities that will be available to them throughout his tenure.
The Legislator, serving his first term in Parliament in an exclusive interview with Jubilee Radio was thankful to God and the people of Keta Constituency for ensuring his victory. He urged all to rally behind him for the socioeconomic liberation of the constituency.
According to the MP, the Free Medical Screening, dubbed, the “Health Project” will be a biannual event covering various health needs of the people. He believes, the people must be in good health if they are to enjoy life to the fullest.
According to him, some feasibility studies conducted by his office revealed the prevalence of cataract and other related eye complications among the aged population in the constituency, hence the need to begin with the eye screening exercise in earnest.

Hon. Gakpey who was visibly elated at the turnout of the people when he visited Anyako-Konu, one of the centers where the program was held said those who required further examination, Specialist care and Surgery will all be catered for under the Project and entreated all to take advantage of the opportunity. He indicated other ailments such as Hernias will also be screened for and those who will require surgery will get it done under the Health Project.
Another key area of concern for him is the rehabilitation of clinics, CHIPS compounds and other health infrastructure with Anyako Health Center set to be among the first to be rehabilitated and equipped to absorb the pressure being brought about due to its proximity to the Anlo Awomefia Senior High School which has increased enrollment due to the government’s Free SHS Policy.
Hon. Gakpey, who won the Keta constituency seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with 31,470 votes representing 85.8% of valid votes cast in the 2020 General Elections, underscored the need for all to put their shoulders to the wheel and help push his ideas for growth and development.
He spoke passionately about Job creation avenues his office is set to create for the youth to make their livelihoods a lot better. Key among them is the Apprenticeship Program where as many youth as are willing will be assisted with Sewing Machines, Hair Dryers and other tools and be enrolled into an Apprenticeship Program thus giving them a head start in life upon completion. He also hinted of Loan Schemes to help traders expand their businesses.
Some residents of Anyako who spoke to Jubilee Radio also expressed their joy at seeing their Member of Parliament in their mist this soon to begin the fulfillment of the promises he made prior to the elections. They expressed optimism that Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey will be able to do as he had promised and more.
In an interview, an elated Hudzengor Vormawor, who got a spectacle for the first time to aid her sight after the screening could not thank the MP enough, having felt the immediate impact. On her part, Ms. Afetormashi Mawufemor, a vocal admirer of the MP said her happiness stems from the fact that the MP did not wait till the next electioneering to start running the grounds in a desperate bid to get their votes to the nodding approval of others. She urged other MP’s to take a cue from Hon. Gakpey’s call to duty and provide services like these.
On the first day of screening in Keta municipality over 750 people were attended to over various issues with their eyes. They include 197 cases of allergic and inflammatory conditions, 149 cases of infective eye conditions, 146 glaucoma and ocular hypertension cases, 208 dry eyes syndrome cases, and 17 traumatic cases. Nine congenital and genetic causes were counseled and 41 normal cases examined and educated on good eye practices. Out of these 139 cataract cases and Seven apterygial cases have been booked for surgery.
Refractivity, 22 sights and 64 reading spectacles were also dispensed.
