Islamic clergy in the Ayawaso Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region and other Muslim sympathisers last Friday expressed condolences to the Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, who lost a son recently.

The sympathisers organised the engagement at the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC) at Kokomlemle, so that as they put it “we can express our condolences to our dear minister conveniently.  Our choice of this place was informed by such convenience, indeed more convenient than trooping to his residence.”

“This is a minister, our MP, whose kindness and respect transcends party lines. Irrespective of party affiliations, he shows love and respect to all. May God grant him the strength to contain the pain of losing a child,” they stated.

Sheikh Swalla and Sheikh Taufic, two leading clerics in the constituency, led the prayers and rendering of condolences to the bereaved minister.

Sheikh Swalla prayed for the minister as he undertakes his campaign, the period being a campaign season, adding “may Allah choose for us a leader who would bring comfort to the people of this country.”

He also prayed for the minister and other family members who would join him for the trip to the US to organise the funeral and burial of his deceased son.

Such trying moments sometimes befall human beings as tests of their faith, he said in a brief sermon to the minister and others.

The minister, through a former Nasara Coordinator, Abubakar Suleman a.k.a. Lakulaku, expressed gratitude to the Muslim sympathisers for their gestures and show of love during these trying moments in his life.

Those who showed up to express condolences from the constituency came from varied political backgrounds.

Henry Quartey’s son passed on in the US where he was studying at the Pennsylvania State University.

The minister rushed to the US following the sad development. Now back home, he is expected to return for the burial of the deceased in the US.
