My comments on WhatsApp platform not related to coup plot – ACP Agordzor

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dr. Benjamin Agordzor, has admitted to making some comments on a WhatsApp platform as he has been accused of but maintained strongly that they are not related to the alleged coup plot, ABC News can report.

The embattled Police officer indicated he will not be prevented from expressing his opinion after he was picked up by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) following some leads obtained which suggested that he was communicating with the alleged coup plotters.

Speaking after his appearance at the Kaneshie District Court, Wednesday, ACP Agordzor stated that he has not committed any crime to warrant the treatment being meted to him, maintaining that expressing his opinions is his way of carrying out President Akufo-Addo’s charge for Ghanaians to be citizens rather than spectators.

“I’m as strong as anything, I’m not meant to be bugged, I’ve not committed any crime, I’ve done nothing wrong. I mean the President called upon us to be citizens, so when I express my opinions on a WhatsApp platform unrelated to any alleged coup, nobody should bug me and I will stand for this, I will stand for this till the end, they cannot break me down at all” he told the media after his court hearing, ABC News can report.

Lawyer of the accused, Martin Kpebu, after the court hearing, described the actions by the BNI as ‘unconstitutional’.

g to him, the Kaneshie District Court, where his client’s case is being heard, lacks the jurisdiction to proceed to hear the matter against him since it is incapable of granting him bail in such matters.

” The decision to take him to the district is unfair because that court does not have the power to grant him bail in treason matters. So if the BNI does not grant him bail themselves, the district court cannot. What the BNI is doing is unconstitutional and unfortunate,” he stressed.

ACP Agordzor has been remanded in the BNI custody till Friday to enable the magistrate, Eleanor Botwe, deliver her ruling on an application challenging its jurisdiction over the case.

Dr. Benjamin Agordzor has been charged with abetment to commit treason for his alleged involvement in a coup plot.
