My Contestants bullied me – MP-elect

The sitting Member of Parliament (MP) and MP-elect for the La Dadekotopon constituency, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has described her experience contesting against two male opponents as a challenging and intense competition.

“One of my contestants, who was the personal driver to the sitting president, had significant resources at his disposal, including support from the presidency, to ensure his victory. But by the grace of God, I emerged victorious,” she narrated during an interview in her office in Parliament.

Despite winning by a wide margin, Hon. Sowah noted that her opponents used harsh words against her during the campaign period. However, she stated that such tactics had little impact on her. She urged men to refrain from using disparaging language against women in any competitive setting.

She expressed surprise at her victory, attributing it to her hard work, constant engagement with the people, and her efforts to address their challenges.

Looking ahead, Hon. Sowah stated that her primary focus after being sworn in will be on developing the skills and minds of her constituents. She plans to prioritize education and ICT training to empower them to meet the demands of modernization.

She also praised the President-elect, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for his continuous support and commitment to creating opportunities for women. Hon. Sowah expressed confidence in his ability to transform the country further.

Additionally, she highlighted her commitment to initiating and implementing programs that will benefit her constituents. Among these is her promise to prioritize the “Drivers’ Fund,” which aims to support drivers within the constituency to sustain their livelihoods.
