My Daily Diary of Public Intellectualism: The NPP is Digging its Own Grave…
… And it will be buried in it at Election 2020.
Folks, it’s no secret that the incompetence, thievery, thuggery, and concentrated lies coming from Team Akufo-Addo has already hurt the NPP’s political base.
Let’s not even add the massive corruption and the phenomenon of “Adidi gya” (“One man chop”) that have split its ranks both in the country and abroad.
The persistent protests from the loud-mouthed Kennedy Agyapongs and others against the lopsided award of contracts have already damned Team Akufo-Addo.
Many happenings across-the-board don’t speak well for Team Akufo-Addo either. Take, for instance, the manipulation of figures to portray Ghana’s economy as booming. Ghanaians feeling the pinch are disgruntled, disenchanted, disaffected, dismayed, and depressed.
The writing is on the wall that Team Akufo-Addo has betrayed the trust reposed in the pre-Election 2016 Akufo-Addo and Bawumia promises of getting Ghana out of the woods. The reality is that Team Akufo-Addo is rather pushing Ghana further into the thickest depths of the forest, which scares Ghanaians all the more.
The stage is set to prove that Team Akufo-Addo is a flop, regardless of the persistent and annoying boasts from officialdom. Ghanaians are hurting.
The pressure from opponents seems to be mounting as an external force to doom Team Akufo-Addo at Election 2020.
But what will really hurt it most will come from within the NPP’s own ranks/political base.
Happenings over the past three years have angered both NPP members and sympathizers and uncommitted segments of the society.
What has begun emerging in the rough-and-shod regarding preparations toward the party’s primaries in April to choose Parliamentary Candidates is further deepening the crisis.
We hear and see daily the mayhem ensuing. The discrimination against new entrants and the resultant hooliganism and physical attacks are clear catalysts for an implosion.
Adansi Asokwa, Asante Mampong, and many others paint that bloody and bleak picture. See the latest: (https://mobile.ghanaweb.com/…/Aspirant-leaves-NPP-nominatio…).
More will erupt. The consequences are dire:
i. Aggrieved people being discriminated against will use every means to negatively influence their supporters to Team Akufo-Addo’s disadvantage;
ii. A massive apathy will hit the NPP base;
iii. The implacable eligible voters will vote “skirt-and-blouse” or downright against Team Akufo-Addo.
iv. Stupid and misguided politically explosive utterances such as the one attributed to Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful (that the “real owners of Ghana are in power”… and will “not allow the NDC to return to power”) hurt the NPP more than the infamous Victor Owusu’s undermining of Ewes as “inward-looking”.
In any situation of the sort, the NPP will not prevail at Election 2020.
I pray very hard for it to happen so Ghanaians can get rid of the albatross hanging around their necks.
