Some aggrieved members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Yendi Constituency have secured an injunction against the planned polling station executive elections after their names were removed from the album.

The ex-parte application was filed at the Tamale High Court.

They, therefore, followed due process, as stipulated in the party’s constitution, and purchased forms from the national secretariat.

However, efforts to submit the forms at the constituency level have proven futile as they claim the Committee Chairman has deliberately refused to accept the forms.

They are, therefore, praying the Court to impose an injunction on the elections.

Over the weekend, some of the aggrieved members staged a protest against the Committee and the Member of Parliament, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, whom they accuse of scheming to have his favourites elected.

They claim the conduct of the Committee “is creating anxiety and raising tension in Yendi Constituency which, if left unchecked, is likely to thwart and undermine the impending election”.

They indicated in the writ that unless the Court intervenes, the Committee will be bent “on organising the elections with their preferred candidates on the ballot. This will cause the Applicants irreparable loss and damage as they have already spent huge sums of money in their bid to contest”.
